Cleaning and treatment of manufactured stone

Pietraeco’s reconstructed stone is made from the highest quality raw materials to guarantee maximum aesthetic performance and durability.

In order to ensure that the final aesthetics of the works realised with reconstituted stone are impeccable, specific cleaning measures must be taken during and after laying.

Cleaning during and after laying

When laying, it is always advisable to work with clean hands and tools to avoid soiling the stone with glue or grout.

Should any glue accidentally get on the stone wall, it is advisable to remove it using a sponge dampened in water to avoid permanent stains.

If dry stucco residue remains on the wall after the Pietraeco products have been applied, remove the hardened lumps with the help of a wooden stick. A gentle cleaning with a sponge and water can then be carried out. If the above procedure does not suffice, white vinegar in a proportion of 1/5 of the water can be used.

To remove dust residues, it is advisable to use a soft-bristled brush (sorghum) to rub gently on the stone previously wet with clean water, in which neutral soap can be diluted.

It is essential, to avoid damaging the stone, not to use bleach or chemicals of any kind.

Treatments

Pietraeco reconstructed stone for exteriors is made from materials that guarantee maximum resistance, which is why no additional treatments are required.

Specific protective treatments should only be carried out if the walls are exposed to deteriorating agents (salt, chlorine, chemicals) in order to improve waterproofing.

This type of treatment, based on water or solvent, must always and in any case allow the stone to transpire completely.

Little advice on what not to do when cleaning and treating external and internal reconstructed stone

  • Do not use wire brushes
  • Do not clean with acid detergents
  • Do not use high-pressure water jets
